EAU CLAIRE, WIS. — Eau Claire Fire Rescue announced the death of Firefighter Bryce Jungbluth, 27, who died July 31 following a medical emergency that occurred July 26 shortly after he completed a shift.
Jungbluth experienced the medical emergency upon coming off duty July 26. He was transported to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he remained hospitalized until his death July 31.
Jungbluth previously served with Carrboro Fire-Rescue in North Carolina before joining Eau Claire Fire Rescue. The Carrboro Police Department issued a statement describing Jungbluth as a friend to many, a loving husband, and a loving father who cared deeply about the fire service.
Eau Claire Fire Rescue characterized Jungbluth as an officer who approached every shift with a willingness to learn, serve others, and support fellow firefighters.
On August 1, firefighters and community members gathered along a procession route to escort Jungbluth’s remains from Minneapolis through Eau Claire to Hayward as a final tribute to his service.
“The Eau Claire Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to Bryce’s family, friends and all those affected by this tremendous loss,” the department stated in an official announcement.
