CLAYTON, N.C. — A new $950,000 fire engine was damaged after overturning in a single-vehicle crash Sept. 24, just three days after entering service, according to the Clayton Fire Department.
The crash occurred around 6 a.m. on Covered Bridge Road between Payton Drive and Club Connector. Engine 1 overturned while responding to an EMS call and came to rest off the roadway. No injuries were reported.
The engine had been placed in service three days earlier at the town’s Horne Street Fire Station.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
