- The crash occurred around 4 a.m. near the Durham County line when a northbound Toyota Highlander struck the fire truck and was pushed into a nearby pickup truck.
- The victims were identified as Jason Nye, 31, Christina Nye, 32, and their 6-year-old daughter, all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.
- The couple’s 10-year-old son was seriously injured and is being treated at Duke University Hospital.
- The fire truck and pickup truck were unoccupied at the time of the crash; the cause remains under investigation.
GRANVILLE COUNTY, N.C. — Three members of a Charlotte family were killed early Saturday when their SUV struck a fire truck blocking the scene of an earlier crash on Interstate 85, according to WSOC-TV and WRAL.
The crash occurred around 4 a.m. near the Durham County line when a Toyota Highlander traveling north struck a Providence Fire Department truck stationed at the earlier crash scene. The impact pushed the SUV into a nearby pickup truck.
Four family members from Charlotte were riding in the SUV. Jason Nye, 31, Christina Nye, 32, and their 6-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. Their 10-year-old son was seriously injured and is being treated at Duke University Hospital.
The fire truck and pickup truck were unoccupied at the time of the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
